Rain and Ice

They predicted an ice event for our area for last night. We got it but it only lasted for a bit. Things were slick this morning and public schools were cancelled. It transitioned to rain pretty quickly though and that is the current state outdoors, cold rain! So what do you do on a miserable rainy day?

Well you start by doing scripture journaling because it's good for your soul

You make some breakfast- Biscuits and Jelly should be fine

You get dressed in an oversized sweater and jeans. Don't forget to pull your hair in a pony tail. No need fixing it for the rain!

You shower two kiddos and get them dressed

You pick up around the place because it piles up very quickly

You pay special attention to your desk. It gets used a lot and needs some TLC

You scream at the dogs because they bark at every single thing that moves

You do morning work with the kids and let them watch a video on bobsledding and work in their journals. Then you read them a book!

You work on your capsule wardrobe plan some more

You put dinner in the crockpot and hope it turns out well because it's a new recipe

You go to the little store to get the things you need because you don't want to drive all the way to Walmart.

You reschedule a doctors appointment and skip out on going ot the bank because it's cold and rainy

You go visit the folks up to the office since you haven't been there in forever

You do Core Work with the kids and hope that your instructional time everyday is enough to teach them what they need to know

You wash dishes twice and know you will still have another load to do after dinner

You make a corn casserole because it's your favorite

You text your mom to check on her and tell her you love her

You watch cartoons, lots of Pokemon. If your a kid you do anyway

You play a board game with your big sister- she's the greatest

You moan and groan because somehow you hurt your lower back and your in lots of pain

You walk the dogs in the rain and cold and wish they'd learn how to walk themselves

You keep a running list in your bullet journal of things that crossed your mind today

You make a store list for tomorrow because you know this crew thinks they got to eat

You are thankful that your oldest didn't hurt herself when she fell off the steps on the ice

You fix some Cheddar Biscuit Rolls and listen to your husband Praise God because he loves them so good!

You let the kids do their own thing in the evening because frankly your tired and just don't fell like doing much

You update your planner for tomorrow and realize how much of your schedule to do today you didn't get accomplished. Such is life!

You spend some time doing tomorrow's planning and updating the important stuff

You fight with the kids because they STILL don't want to go to bed.

You write and leave your hubby a sweet note to find in the morning because you realize just how lucky you are

You go to bed and moan and groan some more because your back hurts

Yep that's how you spend a rainy Monday

Simple Sunday in Our World

* Woke up and lounged watching Law and Order for awhile- I love that show

* Anika got up and made her way to the bathroom to get dressed. While she was doing that I ran to the little store (it's right beside where we live) and got pop and sausage!

* I called and talked to my Mom for a bit. My Aunt took a bad spell yesterday and my Mom spent the night with her at the hospital. She seems some better this morning. They are talking about putting her in an in house pulmonary rehabilitation center.

* I fixed the kids some breakfast- they both were awake at this point. I fried some sausage and made some biscuits.

* While breakfast was cooking, I made a store list. I hadn't planned on going to the store but they are forecasting an ice storm for us so I thought I better just in case.

* We ate breakfast, Anika did her makeup and then I got dressed for the day. Axle ate so good this morning, he loves sausage.

* My daily dressing included jeans, a striped shirt and a denim button up. I had to sport floral shoes though because Lee got them for me for Christmas and continues to ask why I don't like them. It's not that I don't like them, it's that it's really cold out. She doesn't take that for an answer!

* We started our morning school work. We worked in our journals, read a story and then did some cutting practice. I found some cute cutting worksheets online that were winter themed so the kids used them to practice cutting on

* While we did our morning work, Anika straightened up the place. It wasn't too awfully bad so it didn't take too long.

* I took the dogs out for a walk and Anika got the kids shoes on. Then we headed out to town to get some supplies

* We had to go to the grocery store first. I went to Save a Lot because it's cheaper but couldn't get everything I needed so I had to go to Food City as well. After that I ran through the tobacco store to get SJ some tobacco. I also ran to Goody's to exchange two tops I got BUT their computers are down and won't be back up and running until the 11th. I thought that was an awfully long time.

* We came back to the apartment, got everything put away & got cartoons turned on for Lee. Ax whined relentlessly because he got grounded from electronics the rest of the day due to throwing a fit and not wanting to participate in school work this morning. Poor boy, he's so hard headed!

* I took some time and worked in my scripture journal while everyone was occupied!

* By this time of the evening it was time for supper. I didn't have to do a thing for supper tonight. Anika has a recipe for a Buffalo Chicken Pasta Bake that she makes so she made it for us. She even made us Garlic Bread and Side Salads too. It was delicious.

* While she was cooking, I did some Core Work with Lee. Her Core today consisted of reviewing the letters she already knows and practicing her new one's. She also practiced writing her A's and B's. She's getting very good at them. I had her identify numbers 1-10 using flash cards and then put them in order from smallest to largest. We also worked on reciting her birthday and we watched a counting video to 20.

* After her Core Work we all ate supper together and then Anika even cleaned up the dishes for me. I told her I was sure she was wanting something.

* Next up was Axle's Core Work. He's been in RARE form today so school was not easy with him today. First he reviewed his new sight words. After that he did his Phonics Program and read in his Reading book to me. Lastly he did his 2's addition facts. Now at first I had no plans on him working on memorizing his base addition facts but the more I thought about it the more sense it made. They are a building block for everything else he will be doing later on down the road.

* Our craft happened right after Core Work. We made Icecicles today using glue and salt. I thought they ended up turning out pretty cute.

* The kids had free time after our craft. Annalee used her time to watch cartoons and Ax used his to watch his big sister play the Sims. I guess if he was grounded from games he decided he'd just watch someone else.

* I did some more coloring in my new coloring book during this time, took a shower and watched a great movie with the husband. It was called San Andreas and was a wonderful movie about the fault line that runs through California! I really enjoyed it.

* We finished up our day with Tea Time and started a new book. We finished our first Junie B. Jones book a few days ago and started a new one tonight. Axle chose this series and we are really enjoying it.

* Things are winding down around here. I'm putting the kids in bed earlier tonight to see if that helps them. I'm going to do some Sweepstakes, Planning and so forth before calling it a night.

* From looking at the weather we will be here tomorrow. Anika has an appointment but I'm not sure we will make it. Guess we shall see

Baby it's cold Outside!!

It's Cold here in my neck of the woods. The temperature was in the single digits today. I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more, I am NOT a fan of Winter. With temperatures that cold I've stayed in all day long with the exception of walking the dog!

Anika went to Yoga Class this morning and got her nails done. While she was out she went to the store for me. I was sure thankful for that.

My day has been pretty uneventful. I spent the better part of my morning cleaning out the kids clothes. They had too much stuff and a lot of it didn't even fit anymore. I'd love to be a minimalist but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Other than that my day has been filled with just a little of this and that. I did manage to get out of bed earlier today (even though I sure didn't go to bed earlier) and got a shower before the kids got up. I even got in some scripture journaling without interruption.

I started coloring a picture in my "grown up" coloring book, finished my book that I was reading and worked on capsule wardrobe ideas. I read the book "For Women Only" and highly recommend it. It's about how men think and do & was an excellent read. I tested out her theories by asking my husband all sorts of questions and for the most part she was right. I saw a few differences but she was pretty accurate.

The kids have had a pretty lax day today. We didn't do anything in the way of formal schooling really. I guess I just needed the day to recoup from our trip yesterday. They watched cartoons, we built a fort and they did a little ice play. They had lots of fun with the ice play. I prepared it last night by freezing what we called "jewels" into ice cubes. They had to excavate them this morning. They had a blast and was a barrel of fun to watch!

We also read a new book called "The Night Before the Snow Day" and worked in our journals!

Tonight I made a new recipe for dinner! It turned out great and it was the first time I'd ever made a homemade gravy. I know that's pitiful, don't judge!

Our evening is winding down. From looking at my living room I need to do a quick pick up of the house. I also need to wash the sink full of dinner dishes. I'll probably end my night with some planning and such. Not too much going on around here today.

Until Tomorrow

I got New Kids!!!

We are back home tonight. We got up this morning and headed over to the hospital for SJ to meet with the doctor. They didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know. Frankly, they could have just called and gave us the results and saved us a trip.

His appointment went pretty quick so after he finished up we headed for home. We stopped on the way and had brunch at Huddle House. I love Huddle House! We also made a pit stop at Game Stop for new controllers. Axle broke his and Annalee's been wanting one so I just picked up two for the Playstation today.

When we got to Mom's the kids were seriously excited about showing me their new haircuts. I knew they were getting them cut but it was still a shock to see both of them with short hair. Axle went for a look like his favorite wrestler. I tried to convince him otherwise but nothing would have it. Needless to say he will be wearing lots of toboggans, he has no hair! I told him his head was going to get frost bit. Lee decided to go for a bob of sorts. She wanted to be able to wear headbands. I'm bias I'm sure but I think they both look super cute!

When we got home this evening it was already dark. We hurried and packed everything in because it was freezing cold. I got all of our luggage and stuff put away and then made some Spaghetti for dinner. Our evening has been quite lazy. Axle has played his game, Lee has played with her new playdough she bought with her chore money and Anika has kind of just hung out. Hubby has spent his evening watching television and I've been catching up on some things. I got my Scripture Journaling done for today and that was on my Must Do list! I'm not a bit creative but I'm really enjoying doing it. Most of mine is just writing but it's nice to dig into the verses a little deeper. I found the prompts on Facebook and I'm loving seeing all the posts coming out of the group. There are some very creative people out there.

I've also spent some time trying to work on creating a capsule wardrobe. Step one is to define certain things I like so I've been scouring Pinterest for inspiration! I'll post more on how that is going later.

The night is winding down. I've got some planning to do before bed and hope to read a few chapters in my book!

Tomorrow is a whole new day with all new possibilities! That makes me happy!

Here's to Tomorrow!!!

Snow Covered Virginia

I write tonight from a fairly nice little motel room in Virginia

We woke this morning (earlier than normal and I'm happy about that) and started gathering our things for the day ahead. By the time I got everyone ready and our things we didn't get left till around 12:30. I took the kids to my parent's house and then Hubby and I headed this way. I worried about leaving them as my Mom's sister had to be hospitalized today but my Dad and Anika assured me that they could handle it. Good news, she is in a hospital room now and stable. She has issues with her lungs so they will be keeping her a few days for observation.

The ride here was uneventful thankfully. It was a pretty drive and a slow one due to snow covered roads.

We arrived here around 5:30. It's so cold out tonight and I was just glad to get in the room & crank up the heat. We are staying at a different motel than we did the last time. It wasn't any cheaper but it was a little closer to the hospital for tomorrow's appointment.

Initially we were going to have dinner, just the two of us. We were tired from the drive though so we decided to just hang out at the room We ordered some Domino's and I took a NICE HOT bath while we waited. Hubby kicked back and watched some television! Oh and I ordered our food online. Yes I might be living in the stone age but that is the first time I'd ever ordered food online. It was a much easier process than I imagined!

We ate dinner when it arrived, watched some American Pickers and cuddled! Hubby checked out on me a bit ago. He's an early to bed kind of guy. I've been dabbling in a few sweepstakes. I haven't picked the habit back up full swing and honestly don't plan to but I do dabble on occasion.

We have a non smoking room so I've walked outside a few times for that purpose. Let me just tell you it's frigid cold here. Of course I think most of the country is right now. My heart goes out to those who are homeless without warmth.

I'll finish up my night doing a little writing and planning. We aren't doing school today and tomorrow- it's a field trip to grandma's as Axle says!

Hope everyone keeps warm!

We are having SNOW much fun!!!

So yesterday we focused on Snowflakes in our Homeschool and today we followed the same theme! Our morning didn't start as planned again because we all slept in. One of the things I hope to conquer in 2018 is becoming a morning person. I've never been a morning person but I'm determined to be. I'm also determined for my children to be. It's going to be a tough feat but I think we can do it.

I started my morning off with some Scripture Journaling which is always a great way to start the day. After that I dressed myself, done the dishes and started breakfast. I fixed some cinnamon rolls which is the kids favorite. Ax and Lee both woke while breakfast was cooking. I think they smelled it. Anika on the other hand was already up when I got up. She was spending the day with the boyfriend so apparently that motivated her.

We all had breakfast and then we done chores. Ax was told if he took the garbage out he would get chore money. He refused so his little sister done his chore and her's and earned both of their money. She's one smart cookie. He's all sad about it now and as much as I want to give in and give it to him, it isn't teaching him a thing. Poor guy will just have to suffer until tomorrow. Maybe he will be more apt to do them tomorrow!

We did our morning block as soon as the housework was complete. For morning block we worked in our journals. Ax and Lee were given the question would you rather be Santa's Elf and work in the workshop or would you rather be a Reindeer and fly his sleigh. Both chose and Elf. For our morning story Axle picked "The Elves at the Top of the World." It was super cute. The pictures were beautiful too. We ended our morning block by preparing an experiment we are working on. We made pipe cleaner snowflakes and put them in a mixture of boiling water and borax. If it works like it's supposed to, we should have snowflakes covered in crystal's by morning. I'll let you know how that goes.

The kids took a break and done some free play while I worked on school planning for the remainder of the week. I also made some phone calls that were needing done and updated my daily mood tracker. The kids played so well together. It was nice!

Next on our agenda was showers for the two kiddos. Lee went first and then Axle took his turn. While they showered I worked some more on our school work plan! After everyone got their showers we started getting some stuff packed up to go to Nan's. The hubby is an appointment in TN on Friday so we will be going down tomorrow night to spend the night. The kids will be staying with my parent's while we go. They are super excited about it and even more excited that they get to carry their new luggage to Nan and Pa's.

We did our Afternoon Block starting with our core work. Annalee went first. She worked on recognizing and counting. She was given a number and had to place that many snowballs on the plate. She did awesome and got them all. She also listened to video from 1-20 and sang along. I had her write her B's for the first time today and she did awesome. I wasn't expecting her to do so well on them. We also went over her birthday today and she still wants to say it's the 16th instead of the 13th. That is because her brother's is the 16th and she listened while we were learning his. She will get it though with time I'm sure.

Axle did his core work. We started by going over some new sight words and reviewing the old ones. He did excellent and is remembering his sight words well. He worked on his next phonics step on the program that we use and he read in his reading book to me. He also worked on Step 1 on tying his shoes. He's about to conquer the first step I think! He gets frustrated easily at it so I don't push too hard.

After our core work was complete we made cinnamon sugar snowflakes. We used tortillas and cut them in the shape of snowflakes. We then added cinnamon/sugar to them and baked them. The kids really enjoyed this project and were very proud of their creations. They did turn out really cute!

By this time of the day it is supper time. SJ lit the grill for me out on the deck while I wrapped our pork tenderloin in foil. I bought it already seasoned from Walmart and it looked delicious!

I still had a few things I needed to get done so I let the kids have some free time. I made a list of items I needed to buy on our way home from Bristol for the kids school work when we returned. I also did a 1/2 a sink full of dishes so that they would be ready for me to cook supper and I started working on our meal plan for next week. I didn't get it finished but got a good start on it.

I fixed dinner and we all ate. The pork tenderloin was so delicious. It was so full of flavor and the perfect size for us. I made some mac n cheese and cheese biscuits to go with it. We all have full bellies tonight. I socialized with the Hubby for a bit and the kids watched television, then the Hubby turned in for the night.

I've got a bit more to do before bed. I've already cleaned up the supper dishes so now it's just planning and stuff. The kids and I will do Tea Time before bed too! I plan to be in bed by 11:00 myself! That's my new bedtime goal, 11:00 pm. Wish me luck!!!

Tomorrow we are headed to Bristol. I'll update soon!

We took a Snow Day!!!

Public schools have been cancelled here for the past 2 days due to extreme cold weather and illness. The latter is definitely one of the things I don't miss about my kids going to public school.

I decided since everyone else was taking a "snow day" we would too. Our snow day was in the form of we did snow related activities! My kids didn't get the day off and you know what, they didn't even care!

Unfortunately I was feeling VERY under the weather this morning. Nothing some Motrin and sleep didn't cure but we got a very late school start and I had to go to the laundromat. Anika being the good sport she is did our morning block of school for me while I got the laundry all done.

The kids morning started with journal work and answering the question "would you rather it snow ice cream or cats and dogs?" Lee of course chose ice cream and I was certain Axle would too but he didn't. Instead he chose cats and dogs. He said if it snowed ice cream he'd have a tummy ache. He gets a A for logical thinking :)

Annalee chose the book today and she chose a Clifford the Red Dog book. I don't have a clue what the story was since I didn't do it but Annalee seemed to really enjoy it.

After they read, they did a Snowflake Hole Punch project I had ready for them and they did a Snowy Movement activity. Annalee's strength isn't great in her hands yet so she struggled using the hole punch but with Sissy's help she got it done. Anika informed me Mr. Axle wouldn't participate in the movement activity. He's a tough cookie when it comes to things like that. He sometimes worries more about looking goofy than he does having fun. We are working on it.

After 3 hours at the laundromat and out buying necessities I finally returned home. We got all of our Christmas stuff down today and boxed up for another year. It's refreshing to have it all done! I made a quick and easy supper for us and then the kids and I did our afternoon work.

We did our "core work" first. Axle read out of his Reading Book, we worked on his Phonics Program, we reviewed his Sight Words (which he aced) and we started focusing on tying his shoes. He currently only wears velcro or slip on style but it's something I hope to master with him by the summer! It's not going to be easy, it's a tough concept for him to grasp. I'll be looking to the internet for help!!!

Annalee practiced her new alphabet letters by throwing snowballs (cottonballs) at them. She thought it was quite fun! She also practiced tracing the Letter B, reciting her birthdate and counting from 1-20. She's doing well in all aspects! I'm super proud of her and him!

After their core work we did an art activity. We made snowflake paintings by using masking tape to tape out the snowflakes and painting the rest of the board blue. They turned out cute I think!

The kids and I finished off our school day with Tea Time. They enjoy it so much and look forward to it every night. Tonight I made them a special treat for Tea Time. We had homemade caramel brownies. Okay they were out of a box but still. We are almost finished with our first Junie B. Jones Chapter Book and they are already debating over which one we will read next. Thankful mom bought them the set of books for Christmas! They've been a big hit.

I've done some evening planning and hope to retire to bed soon. I'm tired. I'm still not feeling great but much better than when I woke this morning. Hopefully tomorrow morning gets off to a better start.
